Maria Shriver speaks out on the Governator's love child

Maria Shriver speaks out on the controversy surrounding her soon-to-be-ex Arnold Schwarzenegger's love child.

What is this, an episode of The Good Wife? Former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger just admitted that he fathered a child out of wedlock a decade ago. The startling revelation is the reason why his wife, Maria Shriver, filed for divorce after 25 years of marriage.

Maria Shriver speaks out on Arnold Schwarzenegger love child

"I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time. While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not," Schwarzenegger said in a statement.

However, Shriver isn’t staying quiet.

"This is a painful and heartbreaking time," Shriver, 55, said in a statement to People. "As a mother, my concern is for the children. I ask for compassion, respect and privacy as my children and I try to rebuild our lives and heal. I will have no further comment."

What’s even more heartbreaking is that Schwarzenegger secretly provided for his love child for the past decade while Shriver and his other four children were in the dark.

We really feel for Shriver, their four children and his other child during all of this. No one asks to be born -- and sometimes people forget that others will be impacted by their actions.

We have to admit -- our view of Schwarzenegger is a bit tainted now. He always seemed like such a family man -- it just goes to show that everyone has secrets.

Maria Shriver Files For Divorce

Maria Shriver has filed for divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger six weeks after he publicly admitted to fathering a secret love child with the couple's housekeeper.

Maria Shriver Arnold Schwarzenegger wedding

Maria Shriver has terminated her marriage -- the Kennedy heiress has filed for divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger after 25 years of marriage.

In the paperwork, Maria asks for joint custody for the two of their four kids who are still minors. She also wants spousal support and for The Sperminator to pay her legal fees.

While the marriage has reportedly long been troubled, the straw that broke the cheater's back was the shocking revelation that Schwarzenegger fathered a secret love child with the couple's housekeeper.

The court documents also state that the couple had no prenup, so everything Arnold made from 1986 on will most likely be split 50/50 under California law. While Maria had a successful journalism career until her duties as First Lady of California necessitated her resignation from NBC, Arnold's Hollywood earnings far surpassed her own income.

The official date of separation is not listed on the papers, but it is thought to be weeks -- or even months -- before Shriver and Schwarzenegger announced their split.

Mildred Baena's Love Child Confession To Maria Shriver

Mildred Baena, the mistress of Arnold Schwarzenegger and mother of his love child, is speaking out about how she told Maria Shriver the news of their son. It comes as no surprise that Maria carried herself with compassion, even in one of her darkest moments.

According to Mildred Baena, Maria Shriver and others in the Schwarzenegger household had started to grow suspicious of just how much her son Joseph resembles Arnold. In a new interview with Hello! magazine, Mildred the housekeeper is opening up about how she confessed her affair to Maria Shriver.

"Last summer, I brought Joseph over to the house. Until then, he hadn't been around very much," says Mildred Baena. "After that, people in the house started whispering about how much they looked like each other."

Mildred Baena continues, "Maria would ask if I needed to talk to her, and I kept saying no. Finally, she asked point blank. Maria asked me directly if Joseph was Arnold's son, and I just broke down. I dropped to my knees and I was crying, saying that yes he was and I was so sorry."

In reaction to the news Mildred reports that Maria Shriver broke down along with her. "She was so strong. She cried with me and told me to get off my knees. We held each other and I told her it wasn’t Arnie’s fault, that it takes two. Since I was retiring soon, I said I would pack and leave right away," says Baena, "but she said to stay until after the holidays."

Joseph, now 13 years old, was told his father's true identity by his grandmother. Upon hearing the truth, the boy, who had reportedly idolized Arnold for years, replied, "Cool!"

As for Arnold Schwarzenegger and his rapidly dissolving marriage to Maria Shriver? Mildred Baena says: "He's a good man and I know he's suffering too. He loves Maria. I hope with time they work things out."

Maria Shriver Moves On From Arnold Schwarzenegger With $10 Million Home

Maria ShriverMaria Shriver has bought a new home in O.J. Simpson's former neighborhood as she plans life after Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The former newswoman split from the movie star-turned-politician in May just days before he confessed to fathering a lovechild with the couple's maid over a decade ago.

On Friday, she filed for divorce.

And she's already moving on from her broken marriage - Shriver has bought a new $10 million home in Brentwood, California - not far from the estate she shared with Schwarzenegger during their marriage, according to TMZ.com.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Refuses To Pay Maria Shriver Spousal Support

Arnold SchwarzeneggerArnold Schwarzenegger has asked a judge not to award his estranged wife Maria Shriver any money in the couple's divorce - because he objects to her request for spousal support.

The former newswoman filed for divorce on July 1st, almost two months after Schwarzenegger confessed to fathering a lovechild with a maid at the family home over a decade ago.

In her divorce petition, Shriver filed for spousal support and requested that her cheating ex pay the legal fees for both parties.

However, the Terminator star is challenging both claims and his lawyer filed the objections in court earlier this week, reports TMZ.com.
Schwarzenegger and Shriver have both requested joint custody of their minor children, Patrick, 17, and Christopher 13.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver Unite To Thank Medical Staff

Arnold Schwarzenegger-LRS-029591.jpg

Estranged couple Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have joined forces to pay tribute to the emergency medical staff who tended to their son Christopher's injuries following a surfing accident last weekend.

The 13 year old has been treated in a hospital intensive care unit (ICU) after reportedly suffering multiple broken bones and a collapsed lung during the incident in Malibu, California.

Shriver, who filed for divorce from her cheating husband earlier this month, has allegedly spent every night at her son's bedside, while Schwarzenegger was snapped visiting the medical center with the couple's daughter Christina on Friday.

They have now released a joint statement to thank lifeguards and emergency workers for taking "extraordinary" care of Christopher as he continues to recover from the accident.

The press release, issued to TMZ.com, reads, "A few days ago our son Christopher suffered an accident at the beach.  While it has been a very scary week, Christopher is surrounded by his family and friends. He is a brave boy and is expected to make a full recovery.

"On behalf of our entire family, we want to sincerely thank the paramedics and lifeguards who responded so swiftly, as well as the doctors, nurses, emergency room and hospital staff who have cared for our son. They have been extraordinary to him and to us. We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayer and ask for respect and privacy for Christopher and our family."

Schwarzenegger and Shriver's two other kids, Katherine and Patrick, have also thanked fans for their words of support on their Twitter.com pages.

Patrick, 17, tweets, "Thank you everyone for your messages about my brother. This kid is strongest kid I ever seen. Keep praying."

Arnold Schwarzenegger & Maria Shriver: Inside Their Shocking Split

 Arnold Schwarzenegger PEOPLE

In the wake of her split from husband Arnold Schwarzenegger and revelations about his infidelity, former TV journalist Maria Shriver tries to start over. Perhaps it was always she who was the better actor in this long union of the Political Scion and the Hollywood Star. Because as the world (and even the couple's close friends) heard on the morning of May 17, Shriver, 55, had learned soon after Schwarzenegger, 63, finished his second term as California governor in January that he had fathered a child over a decade ago, whose mother is a former member of their household staff. "This is a painful and heartbreaking time," Shriver told PEOPLE in a statement that day.

Friends of Shriver marvel at her composure. "The magnitude of this betrayal and selfishness knows no bounds," a pal of Shriver's tells PEOPLE. "I imagine her profound sadness that she was lied to for so long right under her nose, in her own house." Adds another friend of the couple's: "I think [Maria] chose to live in that gray area. Unfortunately, this is so black and white."

The mother of the child is said to be a member of the family's staff who retired with severance in January after 20 years of service. Schwarzenegger has taken financial responsibility for the child, and, says a source close to him, an affair is not ongoing. "It was well over a decade ago." Even so, it is a betrayal that is now reverberating from the family, to friends, to those who worked alongside the couple. "They always seemed devoted to and in love with each other regardless of whatever external noise there was," says Jill Eisenstadt, who was Schwarzenegger's LA-based publicity rep from 2000-2006. "[Maria] was a high consideration in everything he did. He leaned on her, she leaned on him, and they laughed a lot. That was the Arnold I know."

Most surprising is that the actor turned politician didn't pull out of the two-month long 2003 special election when reports surfaced about his groping women who had worked for him on film sets; further scrutiny might have turned up this woman and child. Instead, he apologized and let his wife defend him, which Shriver did. "All these [infidelity] rumors came up, and he denied them, and he used Maria to vouch for his character," notes a friend of hers. "To find out that he had been lying about all of it is so upsetting. Things would have been different if the truth had come out earlier and voters had known at the time about his true character."

Adds a source close to the Republican former governor, "He recognized this day would come and was trying to emotionally prepare for it. But you can't prepare for something like this. He's talking to his family. He apologized to each and every one of them [the couple has four children - Katherine, 21, Christina, 19, Patrick, 17, and Christopher, 13]. He's being very forthcoming and hoping to earn their trust back."

How Shriver will respond remains to be fully seen, and the couple have yet to file for divorce. "She is a very religious person," says a friend. "She will spend a lot of time on prayer and recovery." Meanwhile Arnold "is doing the best he can," says a source close to the actor. Despite the admitted infidelity, the couple will continue to support each other, and there will be no fighting over custody. "This is a sad time for her, but Maria will come out okay," says a longtime pal. "She is a strong, resilient person."
